Donations update

The American Red Cross Shelter located at the Student Recreation Center has asked that NO MORE donations be brought to the Student Rec. They have been overwhelmed by the huge hearts of the Tuscaloosa community and all needs have been met for the next week. There are alternate drop-off locations listed here.

MONETARY DONATIONS

This is the biggest need at this time. You may make monetary donations to the American Red Cross and to the Salvation Army. Make donations to the American Red Cross at the West Alabama office located on 15th Street across from the University Mall. Make sure that you indicate “Hurricane Katrina Relief” on your check to qualify to have your donation matched by the Compass Bank.

DONATION LOCATIONS

The Student Recreation Center has been overwhelmed by the generous support of the Tuscaloosa community and is no longer accepting donations of food, clothing, etc. Please deliver donations to one of the following collections sites:

CLOTHING

No clothing donations are needed at this time. The shelter has indicated that they have enough for the moment.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

All school age children will be attending school starting on Tuesday. There is a great need for school supplies for these children. Your donation of these items would be greatly appreciated:

3-Ring Spiral Notebooks
3-Ring Binders
Loose Leaf Paper
Pencils
Pens
Pocket Folders
Paper Towels
Kleenex

PHONE CARDS

Donations of phone cards are a great way to help families connect with relatives and friends. Phone cards may be brought to the Community Service Center in room 355 of the Ferguson Student Union on the UA campus.

HOUSING ACCOMODATIONS

The Tuscaloosa Housing Authority will have vouchers for temporary housing. For information please call 205-758-6619.

If you are interested in housing a family or individual who is a Hurricane Katrina Refugee, please call the Community Service Center at 348-2865 to add your name to a list of potential alternative housing sites.
